'I am as peremptory as she proud-minded.'
Part of the 2012 Globe to Globe Festival.
Theatre Wallay presents a new production of The Taming of the Shrew, starring the Lahore stage and screen star Nadil Jamel as Katherine. Navid Shahzad's production, rich in colour and energy, explores the difficulties encountered by modern Pakistani women. With live singers and musicians, a thrilling bhangra jig rounds off this uplifting version of the first rom-com.
While the beautiful Bina has no shortage of suitors, her father decrees she cannot marry before her sister, the tempestuous Qurat-el-Ain. Bina’s admirers pay a witty fortune-seeker, Rustam, to court Qurat-el-Ain. He woos, marries and sets out to tame her through any means possible, while Bina’s suitors fall over each other in their attempts to win her love.

This was such an amazing evening! I've seen 10 Globe to Globe shows but none started off with the national anthem except for this one. Being from India, it was even more very heart warming to have experienced this! A deep sense of gratitude radiates from the depth of my being and extends to the Globe, the Pakistani actors and the audience for having created this spectacular night of pure theatre!
